# Father of Indian Radio Astronomy Govind Swarup passes away.

Govind Swarup, the man who pioneered radio astronomy in India, died on Monday 07 September 2020 in Pune following a brief illness. He was 91. 

Swarup is credited with conceptualising and leading the team that set up the Ooty Radio Telescope (ORT) and Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope (GMRT).

Regarded as the “Father of Indian Radio Astronomy”, Swarup was the founder-director of TIFR – National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA) in Pune.

ඉන්දියාවේ ගුවන්විදුලි තාරකා විද්‍යාවේ පුරෝගාමියා වූ ගෝවින්ද් ස්වාරුප් 2020 සැප්තැම්බර් 07 වන සඳුදා පූනේහිදී කෙටි අසනීපයකින් මිය ගියේය. ඔහුගේ වයස අවුරුදු 91 කි.

ඕටි රේඩියෝ දුරේක්ෂය (ORT) සහ යෝධ මීටර වේව් රේඩියෝ දුරේක්ෂය (GMRT) පිහිටුවන ලද කණ්ඩායමට සංකල්පීයකරණය සහ නායකත්වය දීම ස්වර්ප්ගේ ගෞරවයයි.

“ඉන්දියානු ගුවන්විදුලි තාරකා විද්‍යාවේ පියා” ලෙස සැලකෙන ස්වාරුප් පූනේහි TIFR - ගුවන්විදුලි තාරකා භෞතික විද්‍යාව පිළිබඳ ජාතික මධ්‍යස්ථානයේ (NCRA) ආරම්භක අධ්‍යක්ෂවරයා විය.
