The latest Levels and Trends in Child Mortality: Report 2020 from UNICEF and partners in the UN Inter-Agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation (UN IGME), shows the full scope of child mortality rates across the world – from newborns to adolescents, including for the first time this year, estimates for youth aged 15–24 years – as well as the progress made toward meeting the SDG targets by 2030.
According to the report the under five mortality rate in Sri Lanka has declined to 7% in 2019 from 22% in 1990.

ළමා මරණ අනුපාතිකයේ නවතම මට්ටම් සහ ප්‍රවණතා: යුනිසෙෆ් වෙතින් 2020 වාර්තාව සහ ළමා මරණ අනුපාතය තක්සේරු කිරීම සඳහා වන එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ අන්තර් ඒජන්සි සමූහයේ (UN IGME) හවුල්කරුවන්, අලුත උපන් දරුවන්ගේ සිට නව යොවුන් විය දක්වා ලොව පුරා ළමා මරණ අනුපාතිකයේ සම්පූර්ණ විෂය පථය පෙන්වයි. මෙම වසරේ පළමු වතාවට, වයස අවුරුදු 15-24 අතර තරුණයින් සඳහා ඇස්තමේන්තු - මෙන්ම 2030 වන විට SDG ඉලක්ක සපුරා ගැනීමේ ප්‍රගතියද පෙන්වයි.
වාර්තාවට අනුව, ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ අවුරුදු පහට අඩු මරණ අනුපාතය 1990 දී 22% සිට 2019 දී 7% දක්වා අඩු වී තිබේ.
