# Sri Lanka Sends Illegally Shipped Containers Full of 'hazardous Waste' Back To UK.
Sri Lanka authorities informed on Sunday, September 27 that the island has shipped back at least 21 containers to the UK after they were found to contain hazardous waste. As per reports, containers had 260 tonnes of rubbish and were shipped to the country in violation of international laws governing the shipping of hazardous materials. The customs officials reported discovering hospital waste in many of the total 263 containers that were imported by a private firm.
Several containers that were reportedly part of a shipment of used carpets, rugs for recycling, have been stored in the warehouses and only a small amount has been re-exported.
Media reports have cited Sri Lankan authorities saying that there were also plastic and polythene waste in the containers that were sent back on Saturday, September 26.

අන්තරායකර අපද්‍රව්‍ය අඩංගු බව සොයා ගැනීමෙන් පසු දිවයින විසින් අවම වශයෙන් බහාලුම් 21 ක් එක්සත් රාජධානියට යවා ඇති බව ශ්‍රී ලංකා බලධාරීන් සැප්තැම්බර් 27 වන ඉරිදා දැනුම් දී තිබේ. වාර්තාවලට අනුව, බහාලුම්වල කුණු ටොන් 260 ක් තිබූ අතර ඒවා අනතුරුදායක ද්‍රව්‍ය නැව්ගත කිරීම පාලනය කරන ජාත්‍යන්තර නීති උල්ලංඝනය කරමින් රටට යවන ලදී. පෞද්ගලික සමාගමක් විසින් ආනයනය කරන ලද බහාලුම් 263 න් වලින් බොහොමයක රෝහල් අපද්‍රව්‍ය සොයා ගත් බව රේගු නිලධාරීන් වාර්තා කළහ.
පාවිච්චි කරන ලද බුමුතුරුණු ලෙස වාර්තා වූ බහාලුම් කිහිපයක්, ප්‍රතිචක්‍රීකරණය සඳහා වූ රග්, ගබඩාවල ගබඩා කර ඇති අතර සුළු ප්‍රමාණයක් පමණක් නැවත අපනයනය කර ඇත.
සැප්තැම්බර් 26 වන සෙනසුරාදා ආපසු යවන ලද බහාලුම්වල ප්ලාස්ටික් හා පොලිතින් අපද්‍රව්‍ය ද ඇති බව ශ්‍රී ලංකා බලධාරීන් උපුටා දක්වමින් මාධ්‍ය වාර්තා කර තිබේ.
