# Sri Lankan Inflation declines to 4.1% in August 2020.

Headline inflation as measured by the year-on-year (Y-o-Y) change in the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI, 2013=100)1 decreased to 4.1% in August 2020 from 4.2% in July 2020.

This was mainly driven by the statistical effect of the high base prevailed in August 2019.

Food inflation (Y-o-Y) increased to 12.3% in August 2020 from 10.9% in July 2020, whereas Non-food inflation (Y-o-Y) decreased to 0.8% in August 2020 from 1.5% in July 2020.

The change in the CCPI measured on an annual average basis remained unchanged at 4.8% in August 2020. Monthly change of CCPI recorded at 0.0% in August 2020.

This was due to setting-off the price increase of 0.1%  in the Food category, with the price decline observed in the Non-food category by the same magnitude. Accordingly, within the Food category prices of coconut, vegetables and turmeric increased in August 2020.

However, prices of fresh fish and limes recorded significant declines during the month. Within the Non-food category, prices of items in Health (payments to medical laboratories) sub-category declined during the month.

The core inflation (Y-o-Y), which reflects the underlying inflation in the economy, remained unchanged at 3.2% in August 2020. However, annual average core inflation declined further to 3.8% in August 2020 from 4.0% in July 2020.

කොළඹ පාරිභෝගික මිල දර්ශකයේ (සීසීපීඅයි, 2013 = 100) 1 වර්ෂය (Y-o-Y) වෙනස අනුව මනිනු ලබන සිරස්තල උද්ධමනය 2020 අගෝස්තු මාසයේදී 4.1% දක්වා 2020 ජූලි මාසයේදී 4.2% සිට අඩු විය.

මෙය ප්‍රධාන වශයෙන් මෙහෙයවනු ලැබුවේ 2019 අගෝස්තු මාසයේදී පැවති ඉහළ පදනමේ සංඛ්‍යානමය බලපෑමෙනි.

ආහාර උද්ධමනය (Y-o-Y) 2020 ජූලි මාසයේදී 10.9% සිට 2020 අගෝස්තු මාසයේදී 12.3% දක්වා ඉහළ ගොස් ඇති අතර ආහාර නොවන උද්ධමනය (Y-o-Y) 2020 අගෝස්තු මාසයේදී 0.8% දක්වා 2020 ජූලි මාසයේදී 1.5% සිට අඩු විය.

වාර්ෂික සාමාන්‍ය පදනම මත මනින ලද සීසීපීඅයි හි වෙනස 2020 අගෝස්තු මාසයේදී 4.8% ක් නොවෙනස්ව පැවතුනි. සීසීපීඅයි හි මාසික වෙනස 2020 අගෝස්තු මාසයේදී 0.0% ක් ලෙස සටහන් විය.

මෙයට හේතු වී ඇත්තේ ආහාර කාණ්ඩයේ මිල ඉහළ යාම 0.1% ක් වන අතර ආහාර නොවන කාණ්ඩයේ මිල පහත වැටීම එකම විශාලත්වයකින් නිරීක්ෂණය වීමයි. ඒ අනුව, ආහාර කාණ්ඩය තුළ පොල්, එළවළු සහ කහ මිල 2020 අගෝස්තු මාසයේදී ඉහළ ගියේය.

කෙසේ වෙතත්, නැවුම් මාළු හා දෙහි වල මිල සැලකිය යුතු ලෙස පහත වැටී ඇත. ආහාර නොවන කාණ්ඩය තුළ, සෞඛ්‍යය (වෛද්‍ය රසායනාගාර සඳහා ගෙවීම්) උප කාණ්ඩයේ භාණ්ඩවල මිල මාසය තුළ පහත වැටුණි.

ආර්ථිකයේ යටින් පවතින උද්ධමනය පිළිබිඹු කරන මූලික උද්ධමනය (Y-o-Y) 2020 අගෝස්තු මාසයේදී 3.2% ක් නොවෙනස්ව පැවතුනි. කෙසේ වෙතත්, වාර්ෂික සාමාන්‍ය මධ්‍ය උද්ධමනය 2020 අගෝස්තු මාසයේදී 3.8% දක්වා පහත වැටී 2020 ජූලි මාසයේදී 4.0% ක් විය.
