# 154th Police Day - 03 September 2020.

The Sri Lanka Police was celebrated  154th Police Day tomorrow on 03 September 2020.  

Although a police service was established in Sri Lanka after the conquest of the coastal areas of thecountry by the English in 1796, the Police Service was commenced on this day in 1866 in accordance with the provisions of the Police Ordinance No. 16 of 1865.

George William Robinson Campbell is the first IGP in Sri Lanka.

The first Sri Lankan Inspector General of Police was Sir Richard Aluvihare who became the Inspector General of Police on January 6, 1947.

The Sri Lanka Police consists of 64 Functional Divisions and 42 Territorial Divisions, with a strength of more than 85,000.

Dhammo Havē Rakkhathi Dhammachāri (The one who lives by the Dhamma is protected by the Dhamma itself) is the motto of the Sri Lanka Police.

Meanwhile, special religious programs had organized at the Kotte Rajamaha Viharaya and the Colombo-Hunupitiya Sri Gangarama Viharaya to mark the Police Day.

# 154 වන පොලිස් දිනය - 2020 සැප්තැම්බර් 03.

ශ්‍රී ලංකා පොලිසිය 2020 සැප්තැම්බර් 03 වන දින හෙට 154 වන පොලිස් දිනය සමරනු ලැබීය.

1796 දී ඉංග්‍රීසීන් විසින් වෙරළබඩ ප්‍රදේශ යටත් කර ගැනීමෙන් පසු ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ පොලිස් සේවයක් ආරම්භ කළද, 1865 අංක 16 දරණ පොලිස් ආ d ා පනතේ විධිවිධාන ප්‍රකාරව 1866 දී පොලිස් සේවය ආරම්භ කරන ලදී.

ජෝර්ජ් විලියම් රොබින්සන් කැම්බල් යනු ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ පළමු පොලිස්පතිවරයා ය.

පළමු ශ්‍රී ලංකා පොලිස්පතිවරයා වූයේ 1947 ජනවාරි 6 වන දින පොලිස්පති ධුරයට පත්වූ ශ්‍රීමත් රිචඩ් අලුවිහාරේ ය.

ශ්‍රී ලංකා පොලිසිය ක්‍රියාකාරී කොට් 64 ාශ 64 කින් සහ භෞමික කොට් 42 ාශ 42 කින් සමන්විත වන අතර එහි ශක්තිය 85,000 කට වඩා වැඩිය.

ධම්මෝ හවා රඛාති ධම්මචරි (ධර්මය විසින් ජීවත් වන තැනැත්තා ධර්මය විසින්ම ආරක්ෂා කරනු ලැබේ) යනු ශ්‍රී ලංකා පොලිසියේ ආදර්ශ පාඨයයි.

මේ අතර, පොලිස් දිනය නිමිත්තෙන් කෝට්ටේ රාජමහා විහාරය සහ කොළඹ-හුනුපිටිය ශ්‍රී ගංගාරාම විහාරය යන ස්ථානවල විශේෂ ආගමික වැඩසටහන් සංවිධානය කර තිබුණි.
