# President of Singapore Halimah Yacob dissolves Parliament.
President Halimah Yacob dissolved Parliament on Tuesday (Jun 23) on the advice of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said.
The Elections Department (ELD) said the President has issued the Writ of Election for General Election 2020, with Polling Day on Jul 10. It will also be a public holiday.
The election will “clear the decks” and give the new Government a fresh five-year mandate to focus on the national agenda and the difficult decisions it will have to make, said Mr Lee in a televised address to the nation.

මැතිවරණ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව (ඊඑල්ඩී) පැවසුවේ 2020 මහ මැතිවරණය සඳහා ජනාධිපතිවරයා විසින් රිට් නිකුත් කර ඇති අතර ඡන්ද විමසීමේ දිනය ජූලි 10 වනදා ය. එය රජයේ නිවාඩු දිනයක් ද වනු ඇත.
මෙම මැතිවරණය “තට්ටු ඉවත් කර” නව න්‍යාය පත්‍රය හා ජාතික තීරණ න්‍යාය පත්‍රය හා ඒ සඳහා ගත යුතු දුෂ්කර තීරණ කෙරෙහි අවධානය යොමු කිරීම සඳහා නව පස් අවුරුදු වරමක් ලබා දෙනු ඇතැයි ලී මහතා රූපවාහිනිය ඔස්සේ ජාතිය අමතමින් පැවසීය.
