World Elder Abuse Awareness Day - 15 June.
It was officially recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2011, following a request by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA), who first established the commemoration in June 2006. It represents the one day in the year when the whole world voices its opposition to the abuse and suffering inflicted to some of our older generations. Elder Abuse is a global social issue which affects the Health and Human Rights of millions of older persons around the world, and an issue which deserves the attention of the international community.
The global population of people aged 60 years and older will more than double, from 542 million in 1995 to about 1.2 billion in 2025. Around 4 to 6% of elderly people have experienced some form of maltreatment at home. Elder maltreatment can lead to serious physical injuries and long-term psychological consequences. The incidence of abuse towards older people is predicted to increase as many countries are experiencing rapidly ageing populations.
ලෝක වැඩිහිටි අපයෝජන දැනුවත් කිරීමේ දිනය - ජූනි 15.
වැඩිහිටි අපයෝජන වැළැක්වීමේ ජාත්‍යන්තර ජාලය (INPEA) විසින් 2006 ජුනි මාසයේදී ප්‍රථම වරට අනුස්මරණය කරන ලද ඉල්ලීමකට අනුව එය 2011 දෙසැම්බර් මාසයේදී එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ මහා මණ්ඩලය විසින් නිල වශයෙන් පිළිගනු ලැබීය. එය නියෝජනය කරන්නේ වසරේ එක් දිනක් අපේ සමහර පැරණි පරම්පරාවන්ට සිදුවන අපයෝජන හා දුක් වේදනා වලට මුළු ලෝකයම විරුද්ධත්වය ප්‍රකාශ කරයි. වැඩිහිටි අපයෝජනය යනු ලොව පුරා සිටින මිලියන සංඛ්‍යාත වයස්ගත පුද්ගලයින්ගේ සෞඛ්‍ය හා මානව අයිතිවාසිකම් කෙරෙහි බලපාන ගෝලීය සමාජ ප්‍රශ්නයක් වන අතර එය ජාත්‍යන්තර ප්‍රජාවගේ අවධානයට ලක්විය යුතු කරුණකි.
වයස අවුරුදු 60 සහ ඊට වැඩි පුද්ගලයින්ගේ ගෝලීය ජනගහනය 1995 දී මිලියන 542 සිට 2025 දී බිලියන 1.2 දක්වා දෙගුණයකටත් වඩා වැඩි වනු ඇත. වැඩිහිටි පුද්ගලයින්ගෙන් 4 සිට 6% ක් පමණ නිවසේදී යම් ආකාරයක හිංසනයකට මුහුණ දී තිබේ. වැඩිහිටි හිංසනය බරපතල ශාරීරික තුවාල හා දිගු කාලීන මානසික ප්‍රතිවිපාකවලට හේතු විය හැක. බොහෝ රටවල් වේගයෙන් වයස්ගත වන ජනගහනය අත්විඳින බැවින් වයස්ගත පුද්ගලයින්ට අපයෝජනය වීමේ ප්‍රවණතාව වැඩි වනු ඇතැයි පුරෝකථනය කර ඇත.
