# Former NASA astronaut becomes first woman to reach Earth’s deepest point.
The deepest point in Earth's ocean has been visited by a woman for the first time.
On Sunday 07 June 2020, former NASA astronaut Kathy Sullivan reached the bottom of the Challenger Deep, almost 6.9 miles (11,000 meters) below the surface of the Pacific Ocean, according to EYOS Expeditions. Challenger Deep is considered the deepest point in Earth's oceans and resides within the Mariana Trench, a mighty, sickle-shaped depression lying about 1,100 miles east of the Philippines. The pressure at the bottom is over 1,000 times the pressure at sea level.
Sullivan was accompanied by Victor Vescovo, an entrepreneur and deep sea explorer, in the deep sea submersible Limiting Factor. In total, the expedition lasted just under four hours.
The history-making dive was part of the Ring of Fire expedition organized by Caladan Oceanic, a deep-sea exploration company founded by Vescovo. Caladan and Vescovo also oversaw the Five Deeps expedition, which explored the five deepest points on Earth in 2019. The new expedition is expected to provide the first 4K video of the Challenger Deep.
The word "challenger" has become a bit of a theme in Sullivan's expeditions off the surface of the Earth.

EYOS ගවේෂණ වලට අනුව ඉරිදා 07 ජූනි 2020 නාසා හි හිටපු ගගනගාමියෙකු වන කැතී සුලිවන් පැසිෆික් සාගරයේ මතුපිට සිට සැතපුම් 6.9 ක් (මීටර 11,000 ක්) පහළින් චැලෙන්ජර් ගැඹුරට ළඟා විය. චැලෙන්ජර් ඩීප් යනු පෘථිවියේ සාගරයේ ගැඹුරුම ස්ථානය ලෙස සැලකෙන අතර පිලිපීනයට සැතපුම් 1,100 ක් පමණ නැගෙනහිර දෙසින් පිහිටි බලවත්, දෑකැති හැඩැති අවපාතයක් වන මරියානා අගාධය තුළ පිහිටි ප්‍රදේශයකි. එහි පතුලේ ඇති පීඩනය මුහුදු මට්ටමේ පීඩනය මෙන් 1000 ගුණයකට වඩා වැඩිය.
ගැඹුරු මුහුදේ ගිල්විය හැකි සීමිත සාධකය තුළ ව්‍යවසායකයෙකු සහ ගැඹුරු මුහුදු ගවේෂකයෙකු වන වික්ටර් වෙස්කෝවෝ සමඟ සුලිවන් ද විය. සමස්තයක් වශයෙන් ගත් කල, මෙම ගමන පැය හතරකටත් අඩු කාලයක් පැවතුනි.
වෙස්කෝවෝ විසින් ආරම්භ කරන ලද ගැඹුරු මුහුදේ ගවේෂණ සමාගමක් වන කැලඩන් ඕෂනික් විසින් සංවිධානය කරන ලද රින්ග් ඔෆ් ෆයර් ගවේෂණයේ කොටසක් ලෙස ඉතිහාසගත කිමිදීම සිදුවිය. කැලඩන් සහ වෙස්කෝවෝ ද 2019 දී පෘථිවියේ ගැඹුරුම ස්ථාන පහේ ගවේෂණය කර අධීක්ෂණය කළහ. නව ගවේෂණය මගින් චැලෙන්ජර් ඩීප් හි පළමු 4K වීඩියෝව ලබා දෙනු ඇතැයි අපේක්ෂා කෙරේ.
"චැලෙන්ජර්" යන වචනය සුලිවන්ගේ පෘථිවි පෘෂ්ඨයෙන් ඔබ්බට ගිය ගවේෂණවල තේමාවක් බවට පත්ව ඇත.
