# World Refugee Day - 20 June.
World Refugee Day is observed on June 20 each year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the situation of refugees throughout the world. On December 4, 2000 the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution relating to the status of refugees, and decided that June 20 would be marked as World Refugee Day, to spread awareness and honour the resilience of refugees.
According to the United Nations 1951 Refugee Convention, people who fled their homes and countries due to "a well-founded fear of persecution because of his/her race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion" is a refugee.
The theme of World Refugee Day this year is "every action counts."
# ලෝක සරණාගත දිනය - ජූනි 20.
ලොව පුරා සරණාගතයින්ගේ තත්වය පිළිබඳව දැනුවත් කිරීම සඳහා සෑම වසරකම ජුනි 20 වන දින ලෝක සරණාගත දිනය සමරනු ලැබේ. 2000 දෙසැම්බර් 4 වන දින එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ මහා මණ්ඩලය විසින් සරණාගතයින්ගේ තත්වය සම්බන්ධ යෝජනාවක් සම්මත කර ගත් අතර, සරණාගතයින්ගේ ඔරොත්තු දීමේ හැකියාව පිළිබඳව දැනුවත් කිරීම සහ ගෞරවය දැක්වීම සඳහා ජුනි 20 ලෝක සරණාගත දිනය ලෙස නම් කිරීමට තීරණය කරන ලදී.
එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ 1951 සරණාගතයින්ගේ සම්මුතියට අනුව, “ඔහුගේ / ඇයගේ ජාතිය, ආගම, ජාතිකත්වය, කිසියම් සමාජ කණ්ඩායමක සාමාජිකත්වය හෝ දේශපාලන මතය නිසා හිංසා පීඩා පිළිබඳ මනා දැනුමක් ඇති බිය නිසා තම නිවෙස්වලින් සහ රටවලින් පලා ගිය අය” සරණාගතයා නම් වේ.
මේ වසරේ ලෝක සරණාගත දිනයෙහි තේමාව වන්නේ “සෑම ක්‍රියාවක්ම ගණන් ගැනීමයි.”
