The draft Bill of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution has been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers and it is to be gazette tonight (02 September 2020), according to sources.
The meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, chaired by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, took place this evening.
Accordingly, the draft of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution was tabled in the meeting.
The proposed draft constitutional amendment reportedly seeks to remove all the provisions in the 19th Amendment except the right to information, limiting the term of office of the President and the duration of the Parliament to 5 years, and the number of terms a president can serve.

ආණ්ඩුක්රම ව්‍යවස්ථාවේ 20 වන ව්‍යවස්ථා සංශෝධනයේ කෙටුම්පත අමාත්‍ය මණ්ඩලය විසින් අනුමත කර ඇති අතර එය අද රාත්‍රියේ (2020 සැප්තැම්බර් 02) ගැසට් පත්‍රයක් විය යුතු බව ආරංචි මාර්ග සඳහන් කරයි.
ජනාධිපති ගෝඨාභය රාජපක්ෂ මහතාගේ සභාපතිත්වයෙන් යුත් අමාත්‍ය මණ්ඩල රැස්වීම අද 2020 සැප්තැම්බර් 02 සවස පැවැත්විණි.
ඒ අනුව ආණ්ඩුක්රම ව්‍යවස්ථාවේ 20 වන ව්‍යවස්ථා සංශෝධනයේ කෙටුම්පත රැස්වීමේදී සභාගත කරන ලදී.
යෝජිත කෙටුම්පත් ආණ්ඩුක්රම ව්‍යවස්ථා සංශෝධනය මගින් තොරතුරු දැන ගැනීමේ අයිතිය, ජනාධිපති ධුර කාලය සහ පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේ කාලසීමාව වසර 5 කට සීමා කිරීම සහ ජනාධිපතිවරයෙකුට සේවය කළ හැකි වාර ගණන හැර 19 වන ව්‍යවස්ථා සංශෝධනයේ සියලුම විධිවිධාන ඉවත් කිරීමට උත්සාහ කරන බව වාර්තා වේ.
