# India’s first female cardiologist Dr S Padmavati dies at age 103.
Noted cardiologist Dr S Padmavati has died at age 103 due to Pandemic. Founder of National Heart Institute, she was born in Burma (now Myanmar) in 1917, a year before the world was hit by the Spanish Flu pandemic.
She had migrated to India in 1942 during the World War II. She graduated from the Rangoon Medical College and went overseas for higher education.
On her return to India, she joined as the faculty at the Lady Hardinge Medical College.
In 1962, Dr Padmavati founded the All India Heart Foundation and went on to set up National Heart Institute in 1981 as a tertiary care modern heart hospital in Delhi with first cardiac catheterisation laboratory in the private sector in the Southern Hemisphere, the NHI said.
For her achievements and contributions to development of cardiology in India, she was awarded Fellowship of the American College of Cardiology and FAMS, and Padma Bhushan in 1967 and Padma Vibhushan in 1992 by the Government of India.

සුප්‍රසිද්ධ හෘද රෝග විශේෂ වෛද්‍ය එස් පද්මාවතී වයස අවුරුදු 103 දී වසංගතය හේතුවෙන් මියගොස් තිබේ. ජාතික හෘද ආයතනයේ නිර්මාතෘවරිය වන ඇය ස්පාඥ්ඥ උණ වසංගතයෙන් ලෝකයට පහර දීමට වසරකට පෙර 1917 දී බුරුමයේ (දැන් මියන්මාරයේ) උපත ලැබුවාය.
ඇය දෙවන ලෝක යුද්ධ සමයේ 1942 දී ඉන්දියාවට සංක්‍රමණය වී ඇත. ඇය රංගූන් වෛද්‍ය විද්‍යාලයෙන් උපාධිය ලබා ඇති අතර උසස් අධ්‍යාපනය සඳහා විදේශ ගත වූවාය.
නැවත ඉන්දියාවට පැමිණි ඇය හාඩිං ආර්යාව වෛද්‍ය විද්‍යාලයේ පීඨයට සම්බන්ධ වූවාය.
1962 දී වෛද්‍ය පද්මාවතී විසින් සමස්ත ලංකා හෘද පදනම ආරම්භ කළ අතර 1981 දී දිල්ලියේ තෘතීයික සත්කාර නවීන හෘද රෝහලක් ලෙස ජාතික හෘද ආයතනය පිහිටුවීමට කටයුතු කරන ලදී.
ඉන්දියාවේ හෘද රෝග සංවර්ධනය සඳහා ඇය ලබා ඇති ජයග්‍රහණ සහ දායකත්වය වෙනුවෙන් ඇයට ඇමරිකානු හෘද විද්‍යා හා FAMS විද්‍යාලයේ සාමාජිකත්වය සහ 1967 දී පද්ම භූෂාන් සහ 1992 දී පද්ම විභූෂන් යන සම්මාන ඉන්දියානු රජය විසින් පිරිනමන ලදී.
