# WHO declares Africa as a polio free region.
The World Health Organization (WHO) on Tuesday 25 August 2020 declared that Africa was free of the virus that causes polio, a landmark in a decades-long campaign to eradicate the notorious disease around the world. This matter announced by WHO Regional Director of Africa, Dr. Matshidiso Moeti.
No polio cases had recorded in the continent for the past 04 years and Poliovirus now joins the list of viruses that have been wiped out from African Region.

ලොව පුරා කුප්‍රකට රෝගය තුරන් කිරීමේ දශක ගණනාවක් තිස්සේ පැවති උද්යෝගයේ වැදගත් සලකුණක් වන පෝලියෝ රෝගයට හේතු වන වෛරසයෙන් අප්‍රිකාව නිදහස් බව 2020 අගෝස්තු 25 වන අඟහරුවාදා ලෝක සෞඛ්‍ය සංවිධානය ප්‍රකාශ කළේය. මේ කාරණය අප්‍රිකාවේ ලෝක සෞඛ්‍ය සංවිධානයේ කලාපීය අධ්‍යක්ෂ ආචාර්ය මැට්ෂිඩිසෝ මොයිටි විසින් ප්‍රකාශයට පත් කරන ලදී.
පසුගිය වසර 04 තුළ මහාද්වීපයේ කිසිදු පෝලියෝ රෝගයක් වාර්තා නොවූ අතර පෝලියෝ වයිරස් දැන් අප්‍රිකානු කලාපයෙන් අතුගා දැමූ වෛරස් ලැයිස්තුවට එක්වෙයි.
