# Death Valley: What life is like in the 'hottest place on Earth' ?
Death Valley is a desert valley in Eastern California, in the northern Mojave Desert, bordering the Great Basin Desert. It is one of the hottest places on Earth, along with deserts in the Middle East and the Sahara.
On last Sunday 16 August 2020, what could be the highest temperature ever reliably recorded on Earth, a toasty 130F (54.4C), was reported in the park - a vast, desert area filled with canyons and sand dunes that straddles the border with neighbouring Nevada.
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) says it is still verifying the record.

2020 අගෝස්තු 16 වන ඉරිදා, පෘථිවියේ මෙතෙක් විශ්වාසදායක ලෙස වාර්තා වූ ඉහළම උෂ්ණත්වය වන ටෝස්ට් 130 එෆ් (54.4 සී) උද්‍යානය තුළ වාර්තා විය - අසල්වැසි නෙවාඩා දේශ සීමාව හරහා දිවෙන කැනියන් සහ වැලි කඳු වලින් පිරුණු විශාල කාන්තාර ප්‍රදේශයකි.
ලෝක කාලගුණ විද්‍යා සංවිධානය (WMO) පවසන්නේ එය තවමත් වාර්තාව සත්‍යාපනය කරමින් සිටින බවයි.
