# Lebanon's government resigns over deadly Beirut port blast.

Lebanese PM Hassan Diab announced that he is stepping down after last week's deadly explosion in Beirut. A number of ministers had already stepped down after mass protests against the government erupted in the country.

In a brief televised speech, Prime Minister Hassan Diab said he was taking "a step back" so that he can stand with the Lebanese people "and fight the battle for change alongside them."President Michel Aoun accepted the resignation of the government. Diab served as the PM from 21 January 2020 to 10 August 2020.
