# Ex-Congo president Pascal Lissouba dies at age 88.
Pascal Lissouba, former President of the Republic of Congo from 1992 to 1997, died Monday 24 August 2020 morning in France at the age of 88.
President Lissouba passed away after a short illness, said MP Honore Sayi, a spokesman for the Pan-African Union for Social Democracy (UPADS) created by the former leader in 1992.
His son Jeremie Lissouba, a lawmaker, confirmed his father’s death on Facebook.
After losing power in 1997 following the Congolese civil war, the late former head of state had moved to France in 2004 after stays in Libreville, Burkina Faso and London.
Lissouba was born in Tsinguidi, southwest of the country. He studied agricultural engineering, gaining a doctorate in France in the late 1950s during the final years of colonial rule.
He became minister of agriculture in the newly-independent Congo in the 1960s before serving as prime minister under the then president Alphonse Massamba-Debat.
In 1977, he was sentenced to forced labour for life in a crackdown unleashed by the assassination of president Marien Ngoubi.
He was released two years later and went to France, where he taught genetics at a university in Paris, and then headed to Kenya as an official for the UN’s Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

1992 සිට 1997 දක්වා කොංගෝ ජනරජයේ හිටපු ජනාධිපති පැස්කල් ලිසූබා 2020 අගෝස්තු 24 වන සඳුදා ප්‍රංශයේදී වයස අවුරුදු 88 දී මිය ගියේය.
ජනාධිපති ලිස්සෝබා කෙටි අසනීපයකින් පසු අභාවප්‍රාප්ත වූ බව 1992 දී හිටපු නායකයා විසින් නිර්මාණය කරන ලද පෑන්-අප්‍රිකානු සමාජ ප්‍රජාතන්ත්‍රවාදය සඳහා වූ සංගමයේ (යූපීඩීඑස්) ප්‍රකාශක මන්ත්‍රී හොනෝර් සයි පැවසීය.
ඔහුගේ පුත් ජෙරමි ලිසූබා, නීති සම්පාදකයෙක්, තම පියාගේ මරණය ෆේස්බුක් හි තහවුරු කළේය.
කොංගෝ සිවිල් යුද්ධයෙන් පසු 1997 දී බලය අහිමි වීමෙන් පසු, හිටපු රාජ්‍ය නායකයා 2004 දී ලිබ්‍රවිල්, බුර්කිනා ෆාසෝ සහ ලන්ඩන් හි නැවතී සිට ප්‍රංශයට ගොස් තිබේ.
ලිසූබා උපත ලැබුවේ රටේ නිරිත දෙසින් පිහිටි සිංගුයිඩි හි ය. ඔහු කෘෂිකාර්මික ඉංජිනේරු විද්‍යාව හැදෑරූ අතර යටත් විජිත පාලනයේ අවසාන කාලය තුළ 1950 දශකයේ අග භාගයේදී ප්‍රංශයේ ආචාර්ය උපාධියක් ලබා ගත්තේය.
එවකට ජනාධිපති ඇල්ෆොන්ස් මැසම්බා-ඩෙබාට් යටතේ අග්‍රාමාත්‍යවරයා ලෙස සේවය කිරීමට පෙර ඔහු 1960 ගණන්වල අලුතින් ස්වාධීන කොංගෝවේ කෘෂිකර්ම අමාත්‍ය ධුරයට පත්විය.
1977 දී ජනාධිපති මාරියන් නගුබි ඝාතනයෙන් මුදා හරින ලද මර්දනයකදී ඔහුට බලහත්කාරයෙන් ජීවිතාන්තය දක්වා සිර දඬුවම් නියම විය.
වසර දෙකකට පසුව නිදහස් වූ ඔහු ප්‍රංශයට ගොස් පැරිසියේ විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයක ජාන විද්‍යාව ඉගැන්වූ අතර පසුව එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ අධ්‍යාපන, විද්‍යාත්මක හා සංස්කෘතික සංවිධානයේ (යුනෙස්කෝ) නිලධාරියෙකු ලෙස කෙන්යාවට ගියේය.
