# Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has announced his resignation for health reasons.
He said he did not want his illness to get in touch to the way of decision making the towards country, and apologised to the Japanese people for failing to complete his term in office.
The 65-year-old has suffered for many years from ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease, but he said his condition had worsened recently.
There was still one year left for his tenure to get completed. Following his previous resignation in 2007, he re elected in 2012. Last year, he became Japan's longest serving prime minister. Since then he has been the dominant force in Japanese politics and was recorded landslide election winnings in third term in 2017 and a fourth in 2019.
He will remain in his post until a successor is chosen.

ඔහුගේ ධුර කාලය අවසන් වීමට තව වසරක් ඉතිරිව තිබේ. මීට පෙර 2007 දී ඉල්ලා අස්වීමෙන් පසු ඔහු 2012 දී නැවත තේරී පත් විය. පසුගිය වසරේදී ඔහු ජපානයේ දීර් est කාලයක් සේවය කළ අගමැති ධුරයට පත්විය. එතැන් පටන් ඔහු ජපාන දේශපාලනයේ ප්‍රමුඛ බලවේගය වූ අතර 2017 දී තුන්වන වරටත්, 2019 දී සිව්වන වරටත් අතිවිශිෂ්ට මැතිවරණ ජයග්‍රහණ වාර්තා කළේය.
