# International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances - 30 August.
The United Nations (UN) observes the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances on August 30 each year.
Enforced disappearance is used as a strategy to spread terror within the society. It occurs when people are arrested, detained or abducted against their will and when governments refuse to disclose the whereabouts of these people. Enforced disappearance is a global problem and is not restricted to a specific region of the world.
In December 2010, the UN officially declared that it would annually observe the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances on August 30 each year, starting from 2011.
On 21 December 2010 by its resolution 65/209 the UN General Assembly expressed its deep concern, in particular, by the increase in enforced or involuntary disappearances in various regions of the world, including arrest, detention and abduction, when these are part of or amount to enforced disappearances, and by the growing number of reports concerning harassment, ill-treatment and intimidation of witnesses of disappearances or relatives of persons who have disappeared.

එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ සංවිධානය සෑම වසරකම අගෝස්තු 30 වන දින බලහත්කාරයෙන් අතුරුදහන් වූවන්ගේ ජාත්‍යන්තර දිනය සමරයි.
බලහත්කාරයෙන් අතුරුදහන් වීම සමාජය තුළ භීෂණය පැතිරවීමේ උපාය මාර්ගයක් ලෙස යොදා ගනී. එය සිදුවන්නේ මිනිසුන් අත්අඩංගුවට ගත් විට, රඳවා තබා ගත් විට හෝ පැහැරගෙන ගිය විට සහ රජයන් මෙම පුද්ගලයින් සිටින ස්ථානය හෙළිදරව් කිරීම ප්‍රතික්ෂේප කරන විට ය. බලහත්කාරයෙන් අතුරුදහන් වීම ගෝලීය ගැටළුවක් වන අතර එය ලෝකයේ නිශ්චිත කලාපයකට සීමා නොවේ.
2010 දෙසැම්බරයේදී එක්සත් ජාතීන් නිල වශයෙන් ප්‍රකාශ කළේ බලහත්කාරයෙන් අතුරුදහන් වූවන්ගේ ජාත්‍යන්තර දිනය වාර්ෂිකව 2011 සිට ඇරඹෙන සෑම වසරකම අගෝස්තු 30 වන දිනට යෙදෙන බවයි.
2010 දෙසැම්බර් 21 වන දින 65/209 යෝජනාව මගින් එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ මහා මණ්ඩලය සිය දැඩි කනස්සල්ල පළ කළේ, විශේෂයෙන්, ලෝකයේ විවිධ ප්‍රදේශවල බලහත්කාරයෙන් හෝ ස්වේච්ඡාවෙන් අතුරුදහන් වීම් වැඩිවීම, අත් අඩංගුවට ගැනීම, රඳවා තබා ගැනීම සහ පැහැරගෙන යාම ඇතුළුව, බලහත්කාරයෙන් අතුරුදහන් වීම් ප්‍රමාණය සහ අතුරුදහන් වූවන්ගේ සාක්ෂිකරුවන්ට හෝ අතුරුදහන් වූවන්ගේ ඥාතීන්ට හිරිහැර කිරීම, අයුතු ලෙස සැලකීම සහ බිය ගැන්වීම පිළිබඳ වැඩිවෙමින් පවතින වාර්තා ගණන අනුවය.
