# Tanzania’s Former President Benjamin Mkapa Dies at age 81.
Tanzania’s Former President, Benjamin Mkapa passed away. He served as the third president of the country, from 1995 to 2005, before handing over power to the fourth president Jakaya Kikwete. He held several cabinet posts, such as foreign minister and information minister and also served as ambassador to the United States before he was elected president.
Mkapa’s efforts to reform the economy, fight corruption, and reduce the spread of HIV will make a positive impact on Tanzania for generations to come.
During his term in office, Mkapa privatized state-owned corporations and instituted free-market policies which won the support of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund and resulted in the cancellation of some of Tanzania's foreign debt.
He also chaired various peace resolution meetings and lead the East Africa Community dialogue committee that sought to find a solution to the political instability in Burundi.

ටැන්සානියාවේ හිටපු ජනාධිපති බෙන්ජමින් මාකාපා අභාවප්‍රාප්ත විය. සිව්වන ජනාධිපති ජකයා කික්වෙටේට බලය පැවරීමට පෙර 1995 සිට 2005 දක්වා ඔහු රටේ තුන්වන ජනාධිපතිවරයා ලෙස සේවය කළේය. ඔහු විදේශ ඇමති සහ තොරතුරු ඇමති වැනි කැබිනට් තනතුරු කිහිපයක් දැරූ අතර ඔහු ජනාධිපති වීමට පෙර එක්සත් ජනපදයේ තානාපති ලෙස ද සේවය කළේය.
ආර්ථිකය ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණය කිරීම, දූෂණයට එරෙහිව සටන් කිරීම සහ එච්.අයි.වී පැතිරීම අවම කිරීම සඳහා මාකාපා දරන උත්සාහය ඉදිරි පරම්පරාවන් සඳහා ටැන්සානියාව කෙරෙහි ධනාත්මක බලපෑමක් ඇති කරනු ඇත.
මාකාපා සිය ධුර කාලය තුළ රාජ්‍ය සංස්ථා පෞද්ගලීකරණය කළ අතර ලෝක බැංකුවේ සහ ජාත්‍යන්තර මූල්‍ය අරමුදලේ සහයෝගය දිනාගත් නිදහස් වෙළඳපොල ප්‍රතිපත්ති ස්ථාපිත කළ අතර එහි ප්‍රතිඵලයක් ලෙස ටැන්සානියාවේ සමහර විදේශ ණය අවලංගු විය.
ඔහු විවිධ සාම විසඳුම් රැස්වීම්වල මුලසුන දැරූ අතර බුරුන්ඩි හි දේශපාලන අස්ථාවරත්වයට විසඳුමක් සෙවීමට උත්සාහ කළ නැගෙනහිර අප්‍රිකානු ප්‍රජා සංවාද කමිටුවට නායකත්වය දුන්නේය.
