# Mandela Prize awarded to Greek and Guinean rights activists.
The 2020 Nelson Mandela Prize, which is awarded every five years and recognizes those who dedicate their lives to the service of humanity, will go this year to Marianna Vardinoyannis, of Greece, and Doctor Morissana Kouyaté, of Guinea it was announced on Friday 17 July 2020.
The President of the General Assembly, Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, made the announcement, and will recognize the laureates during a virtual ceremony on 20 July, in light of the pandemic. An in-person award ceremony will take place at a later date, at UN Headquarters in New York.
Morissana Kouyate:
Kouyaté is a leading figure in efforts to end violence against women in Africa, including Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). He has received several international humanitarian awards for his work.
Marianna Vardinoyannis:
Vardinoyannis has been involved in the fight against childhood cancer for some 30 years and, thanks to her work, thousands of children have been cured.
Nelson Mandela Prize:
The Prize is one of the ways the UN commemorates the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela, the first democratically-elected President of South Africa, and a life-long rights activist who was instrumental in ending the racist apartheid era in the country. The 2020 Prize was awarded just ahead of Nelson Mandela International Day, held annually on 18 July.

මහා සභාවේ සභාපති ටිජ්ජානි මුහම්මද්-බන්ඩේ විසින් මෙම නිවේදනය නිකුත් කළ අතර වසංගතය හේතුවෙන් ජූලි 20 වන දින අථත්ය උත්සවයකදී සම්මානලාභීන් හඳුනා ගනු ඇත. පුද්ගල සම්මාන ප්‍රදානෝත්සවයක් පසු දිනක නිව්යෝක්හි එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ මූලස්ථානයේදී පැවැත්වේ.
මොරිසානා කුයාට්:
කාන්තා ලිංගික අවයව විකෘති කිරීම (FGM) ඇතුළු අප්‍රිකාවේ කාන්තාවන්ට එරෙහි හිංසනය අවසන් කිරීමේ ප්‍රයත්නයේ ප්‍රමුඛ චරිතයක් වන්නේ කුයාටා ය. ඔහුගේ කාර්යයන් වෙනුවෙන් ජාත්‍යන්තර මානුෂීය සම්මාන කිහිපයක් ඔහුට ලැබී තිබේ.
මරියානා වර්ඩිනොයන්නිස්:
වර්ඩිනොයන්නිස් අවුරුදු 30 ක් පමණ ළමා පිළිකාවට එරෙහි සටනට සම්බන්ධ වී ඇති අතර, ඇයගේ කාර්යයට ස්තූතිවන්ත වන අතර, දරුවන් දහස් ගණනක් සුවපත් කර ඇත.
නෙල්සන් මැන්ඩෙලා ත්‍යාගය:
මෙම නෙල්සන් මැන්ඩෙලා ත්‍යාගය යනු දකුණු අප්‍රිකාවේ ප්‍රථම ප්‍රජාතන්ත්‍රවාදීව තේරී පත් වූ ජනාධිපතිවරයා සහ රටේ ජාතිවාදී වර්ණභේදවාදී යුගය අවසන් කිරීමට ඉවහල් වූ ජීවිත කාලය පුරාම ක්‍රියාත්මක වූ නෙල්සන් මැන්ඩෙලාගේ ජීවිතය හා උරුමය එක්සත් ජාතීන් විසින් සිහිපත් කරන එක් ක්‍රමයකි. 2020 ත්‍යාගය ප්‍රදානය කරනු ලැබුවේ වාර්ෂිකව ජූලි 18 වන දින පැවැත්වෙන නෙල්සන් මැන්ඩෙලා ජාත්‍යන්තර දිනයට පෙර ය.
