# Sri Lanka's 2nd underwater museum opened in Trincomalee.

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva declared open Sri Lanka’s second underwater museum which was constructed off the Sandy Bay beach in Trincomalee.

The first-ever underwater museum in Sri Lanka was opened off Galle harbour, on July 10.

The underwater museum built off the Sandy Bay beach was constructed by the Navy under the close supervision of the Navy Commander. This is expected to catch the attraction of both local and foreign tourists.

All statues placed here have been handmade by naval personnel and these unique sculptures have been produced from concrete and eco-friendly materials. The site will promote the formation of corals which will be an added beauty to the site with the passage of time. The whole underwater story has been set at a depth of around 60ft within an area of 150ft length and 85ft width, closer to Sandy Bay beach area providing a unique sightseeing experience for anyone who swim or dive in this area.

The main aim of this project is to promote the regeneration of corals and fish breeding. It is very encouraging to see that the fish breeding has already started at this underwater museum site. By the next season, it is certain that tourists will be able to dive in this area. However, the fishery community is advised not to engage in fishing at this site during the initial stage, as once fish breeding to take place the fishers could reap its maximum benefits in the future.

Addressing the opening, the Navy Commander expressed his thanks to Commander Eastern Naval Area, Naval personnel of Command Diving Unit and other officers and sailors of the command for playing a commendable role during the construction of this mega project.

Further, another underwater museum of this nature is planned to be constructed in Tangalle area in the future.

නාවික හමුදාවේ අණදෙන නිලධාරී වයිස් අද්මිරාල් පියල් ද සිල්වා ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ දෙවන දිය යට කෞතුකාගාරය විවෘත කළ අතර එය ත්‍රිකුණාමලයේ සැන්ඩි බේ වෙරළට ඔබ්බෙන් ඉදිකරන ලද්දකි.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ප්‍රථම වරට දිය යට කෞතුකාගාරය ජූලි 10 වන දින ගාලේ වරායෙන් විවෘත කරන ලදී.

සැන්ඩි බේ වෙරළට ඔබ්බෙන් වූ දිය යට කෞතුකාගාරය නාවික හමුදාව විසින් නාවික හමුදාපතිගේ සමීප අධීක්ෂණය යටතේ ඉදිකරන ලදී. මෙය දේශීය හා විදේශීය සංචාරකයින්ගේ ආකර්ෂණය දිනා ගනු ඇතැයි අපේක්ෂා කෙරේ.

මෙහි තැන්පත් කර ඇති සියලුම ප්‍රතිමා නාවික භටයින් විසින් අතින් සාදන ලද අතර මෙම සුවිශේෂී මූර්ති කොන්ක්‍රීට් හා පරිසර හිතකාමී ද්‍රව්‍ය වලින් නිපදවා ඇත. මෙම දිය යට අඩවිය කොරල් සෑදීම ප්‍රවර්ධනය කරනු ඇති අතර එය කාලයත් සමඟ දිය යට අඩවියට අමතර අලංකාරයක් වනු ඇත. සැන්ඩි බේ වෙරළ තීරයට ආසන්නව අඩි 150 ක් දිග සහ අඩි 85 ක් පළල අඩි 60 ක් පමණ ගැඹුරට මුළු දිය යට කතාවම සකසා ඇති අතර මෙම ප්‍රදේශයේ පිහිනීමට හෝ කිමිදීමට යන ඕනෑම කෙනෙකුට අද්විතීය දර්ශන අත්දැකීමක් ලබා දේ.

මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතියේ ප්‍රධාන පරමාර්ථය වන්නේ කොරල් පුනර්ජනනය හා මත්ස්‍ය අභිජනනය ප්‍රවර්ධනය කිරීමයි. මෙම දිය යට කෞතුකාගාර භූමියේ මත්ස්‍ය අභිජනනය දැනටමත් ආරම්භ කර ඇති බව දැකීම ඉතා දිරිගන්වන සුළුය. ඊළඟ කන්නය වන විට සංචාරකයින්ට මෙම ප්‍රදේශයේ කිමිදීමට හැකි වනු ඇත. කෙසේ වෙතත්, ආරම්භක අවධියේදී මසුන් ඇල්ලීම සිදු නොකරන ලෙස ධීවර ප්‍රජාවට උපදෙස් දෙනු ලැබේ. වරක් මත්ස්‍ය අභිජනනය සිදු වූ විට ධීවරයින්ට අනාගතයේ දී උපරිම ප්‍රතිලාභ ලබා ගත හැකිය.

මෙම සමාරම්භක උළෙල අමතමින් නාවික හමුදාපතිවරයා නැගෙනහිර නාවික හමුදාපතිවරයාට, අණදෙන කිමිදුම් ඒකකයේ නාවික භටයින්ට සහ අණදෙන නිලධාරීන්ට සහ නාවිකයින්ට මෙම දැවැන්ත ව්‍යාපෘතිය ඉදිකිරීමේදී ප්‍රශංසනීය කාර්යභාරයක් ඉටු කිරීම පිළිබඳව ස්තූතිය පළ කළේය.

තවද, මේ ආකාරයේ තවත් දිය යට කෞතුකාගාරයක් ඉදිරියේදී තංගල්ලේ ප්‍රදේශයේ ඉදිකිරීමට සැලසුම් කර ඇත.
