133rd Birth Anniversary of first Preseident of India Dr. Rajendra Prasad.
The first president of India, Rajendra Prasad was born on December 3, 1884, in Ziradei, Bengal Presidency (present-day Bihar). Dr. Rajendra Prasad was a lawyer, teacher, writer, and India's freedom fighter. He held the office of the first President of India from 1950 to 1962.
Rajendra Prasad joined the Indian National Congress during the Indian Independence Movement. He rose as one of the major leaders from the region of Bihar and was an ardent supporter of Mahatma Gandhi. He was the first and the longest-serving President of India and contributed to the freedom struggle. He actively participated in the 'Salt Satyagraha' of 1931 and the 'Quit India Movement' of 1942. He was jailed along with many leading freedom fighters.
Dr. Rajendra Prasad had played a big role in making the Indian Constitution. He was awarded the highest civilian award - Bharat Ratna - in 1962. Dr. Rajendra Prasad died on February 28, 1963, at the age of 78.
