According to the daily exchange report of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), the current buying rate of the US Dollar today (30 December 2020) stands at Rs.185.20 and selling rate of the US dollar stands at Rs.190.02.
An increase in volatility of the exchange rate was observed last week. On 24 December 2020, the buying rate of the US Dollar was at Rs. 189.08 and selling rate of the US dollar was at Rs.194.66.
In this backdrop, issuing a statement last week the Central Bank said that it will take appropriate action aggressively in order to contain this volatility in the domestic foreign exchange market. Further, the Central Bank stated that these actions, will enable the Rupee to appreciate within the next few days towards the levels of below Rs.185 per US dollar.
