Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa announced his retirement today at the age of 36 through a social media post. The Karnataka-born right-handed batsman was a part of India’s T20 World Cup winning squad in 2007. Although he does not have many accolades in the Blue jersey, he made a name for himself in domestic leagues and especially his outstanding performances in the Indian Premier League made him a household name in Indian cricket.
The 36-year-old has been known for being a wicketkeeper-batsman almost his entire life. He played 46 ODI matches for India and made 934 runs with an average of 25.9. Coming to T20I, he played 13 matches for India and made 249 runs at an average of 24.9 and a strike rate of just 118. However, his true class can be understood by analysing his IPL stats.
