International Dog Day is observed every year on August 26 to raise awareness about dog adoption and the importance of providing rescue dogs with a safe and loving environment.
The history of International Dog Day dates back to 2004 when the day was founded by Collen Paige, an animal welfare advocate and pet lifestyle expert. Paige, also a conservationist, dog trainer and an author, decided to celebrate International Dog Day on August 26 as it was the first time when his family adopted a dog named "Sheltie" when she was ten years old.
