Indonesia Independence Day is the national holiday in Indonesia as it marks the anniversary of Indonesia’s Proclamation of Independence on August 17, 1945.
All parts of Indonesia celebrate this day with full enthusiasm. The day is referred to by Indonesians as Tujuhbelas Agustus (17th of August) or Hari Merdeka (Independence Day) and on this day Indonesia declared independence from the Dutch Empire on this day in 1945 and declared that Aug. 17 was a national holiday in 1946.
