Douglas Stuart wins Booker Prize 2020.

New York based Scottish writer Douglas Stuart has won the Booker Prize for his debut novel "Shuggie Bain", about a boy in 1980s Glasgow trying to support his mother as she struggles with addiction and poverty.

The 44-year-old Stuart is only the second Scot to have won the prestigious literary prize. He has won a cash price of £ 50,000.

The Booker Prize for Fiction, formerly known as the Booker–McConnell Prize (1969–2001) and the Man Booker Prize (2002–2019), is a literary prize awarded each year for the best original novel written in the English language and published in the United Kingdom. The winner of the Booker Prize is generally assured international renown and success; therefore, the prize is of great significance for the book trade.
