World Red Cross Day is also known as World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day is observed globally on 08 May every year. It is an annual celebration of their principles. The day is celebrated by the Red Cross society across all the countries.

It works for the welfare of people. World Red Cross Society provides for food shortages, natural disasters, wars as well as disease of an epidemic.

This date marks the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant, who is the founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). He is also the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. He was born on 08 May 1828.In 1863, Henry Dunant established the Red Cross Committee International in Geneva, Switzerland.

In 1934, the principles of the Red Cross Truce were presented at the 15th International Conference. It was approved at the same conference. World Red Cross Day annually celebrated on May 8, 1948. In 1984 it was named as World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day.
