# International Missing Children's Day - 25 May.

International Missing Children’s Day is an awareness event that is observed every year on 25th May. The aims of the day are to place a spotlight on the issue of child abduction, educate parents on safeguarding measures to protect their children and also honour those who have never been found and celebrate those who have.

Missing Children’s Day began as an observance in the USA in 1983. The date was chosen following the disappearance of 6-year-old Etan Patz on 25th May 1979 from New York City.

ජාත්‍යන්තර අතුරුදහන් වූ ළමා දිනය යනු සෑම වසරකම මැයි 25 වන දින පවත්වනු ලබන දැනුවත් කිරීමේ අවස්ථාවකි. ළමා පැහැරගැනීම් පිළිබඳ අවධානය යොමු කිරීම, තම දරුවන් ආරක්ෂා කිරීම සඳහා වන පියවරයන් පිළිබඳව දෙමාපියන් දැනුවත් කිරීම සහ කිසි විටෙකත් හමු නොවූ අයට ගෞරව කිරීම සහ ඇති අය සැමරීම මෙම දවසේ අරමුණු වේ.

අතුරුදහන් වූ ළමා දිනය 1983 දී ඇමරිකා එක්සත් ජනපදයේ සැමරීමක් ලෙස ආරම්භ විය. 1979 මැයි 25 වන දින නිව්යෝර්ක් නගරයෙන් 6 හැවිරිදි එටාන් පැට්ස් අතුරුදහන් වීමෙන් පසුව දිනය තෝරා ගන්නා ලදී.
