WhatsApp might soon start showing status in chat window.

WhatsApp, Meta’s instant messaging platform, with more than 2 billion users worldwide, is testing a new feature that shows a contact’s profile information in the chat window.

First spotted by WABetaInfo, the newest version of WhatsApp beta (v2.23.25.11) for Android now shows the status and last seen (if enabled) under the contact name in the app’s chat window.

As can be seen in the screenshot, users will see the other person’s status under their name if they are offline and alternatively switch between their last seen if they have enabled the functionality.

However, the information will only be shown if enabled in WhatsApp’s privacy settings.

The ability to quickly check a user’s status from the conversation window is really handy since you will no longer have to tap and open the profile information screen and enable them to see if they have changed their status.

The publication also suggests that users have been sharing their feedback and have requested a similar functionality in the last couple of years.

The new feature will be available to everyone in a future version of WhatsApp for Android. However, it is still unclear if the developers are working on a similar functionality for iOS devices.

In the last few months, WhatsApp has been working on several new features like ta shortcut button that lets you quickly access a ChatGPT-like AI-powered chatbot, new voice chats for group conversations, email verification for Android and iOS and more.
