World Milk Day - 01June.

World Milk Day, observed every year on 1st June, was created in the year 2001 by Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) to promote the consumption and benefits of milk around the world. The goal of this day is to provide us with a chance to raise awareness of and support in any manner possible initiatives related to the dairy industry.

Theme of World Milk Day 2023

According to worldmilkday.org, the theme of World Milk Day 2023 is “Showcasing how dairy is reducing its environmental footprint, while also providing nutritious foods and livelihoods.”

World Milk Day - Significance

The Day provides an opportunity to focus attention on milk and to publicise activities connected with milk and the milk industry. The fact that many countries choose to do this on the same day lends additional importance to individual national celebrations and shows that milk is a global food.

World Milk Day-History

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN initiated World Milk Day in 2001. As a number of countries were already celebrating a national milk day on or around June 1st, this was chosen as the date.

World Milk Day (WMD) is yet to be recognized as an official international day by the United Nations, and as such the FAO Markets and Trade Division currently focuses on sourcing information about WMD celebrations and sharing it with the Dairy Market Network, and online.  The network provides a free information-exchange platform for members on developments in the world’s dairy industry.
