Zero Discrimination Day - 01 March.

On Zero Discrimination Day, 01 March, we celebrate the right of everyone to live a full and productive life and live it with dignity. Zero Discrimination Day highlights how people can become informed about and promote inclusion, compassion, peace and, above all, a movement for change. Zero Discrimination Day is helping to create a global movement of solidarity to end all forms of discrimination.

When someone is treated differently based on their age, race, religion, social status, or gender it’s called discrimination. Sadly, people with sickness and disabilities are also discriminated against. Even in the advanced civilization in which we live, discrimination is still a huge issue. This is largely due to the fact that it is human nature to categorize people.

The first Zero Discrimination Campaign was held on World AIDS Day in December of 2013. The following year, Michel Sidibé, the executive director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS), launched the first Zero Discrimination Day. Since then, it has been held on March 1st every year.

On Zero Discrimination Day this year 2022, under the theme “Remove laws that harm, create laws that empower”, UNAIDS is highlighting the urgent need to take action against discriminatory laws.
