Pakistan Prime Minister Khan inaugurates 1,100 MW Karachi nuclear power plant.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated the country's first Chinese-assisted 1,100MW nuclear power plant in Karachi.

Khan virtually performed the inauguration of the plant, formally known as Karachi Nuclear Power Plant Unit-2 (Kanupp-2 or K-2), which was built with the support of China.

The project will produce 1,100 megawatts of clean energy, which is particularly important as Pakistan is one of the 10 countries most affected by climate change.The construction of K-2 plant started in November 2013 and its fuel loading started on December 1, 2020 and after several tests, the plant was connected to the national grid on March 18, 2021.
