The first total lunar eclipse of the year 2021 was visible to Sri Lanka on May 26.
The Penumbral Lunar Eclipse was visible in the sky over Sri Lanka, when the moon is in the less dark shadow of the Earth (penumbra), as a penumbral lunar eclipse with a little dimming of the Moon’s brightens.
Accordingly, starting from 6:23 PM to 7:20 PM on Wednesday (May 26), the brightness of only a part of the moon was slightly reduced and the lunar eclipse was visible to Sri Lanka.
However, the same Penumbral Lunar Eclipse was visible to many other countries around the world, as a Complete Lunar Eclipse from 2:17 PM to 7:20 PM.
The total eclipse will not be visible to Sri Lanka as the Moon is below the horizon at the peak of the Eclipse, Prof. Chandana Jayaratne, the Director of the Astronomy and Space Science Unit at the Department of Physics of the University of Colombo.
