Nepal’s Supreme Court ordered reinstatement of Parliament.

Nepal’s Supreme Court has ordered the reinstatement of Parliament, which was dissolved in December last year – a ruling that is likely to thrust the Himalayan nation into a political crisis.

Monday’s 22 Feb 2021 court order came in response to several cases filed with the court charging that Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli’s decision to dissolve the legislature was unconstitutional. 

A five member constitutional bench led by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana annulled the government's decision to dissolve the House of Representatives on the 20th of December 2020.

The court said a meeting of the reinstated Parliament must be called within 13 days.
