Ivory Coast becomes second country to receive vaccines via COVAX.

Ivory Coast has become the second country to receive a shipment of vaccines on 26 February 2021 via COVAX, the global vaccine-sharing programme.

The vaccines, 504,000 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine made by the Serum Institute of India, arrived on Friday in the commercial capital, Abidjan, paving the way for the West African nation to launch a vaccination campaign next week.

WHO-led COVAX scheme that aims to distribute vaccines for free to poor countries. 

Ghana received the first COVAX shipment, marking the start of what the WHO and UNICEF call the largest vaccine procurement and supply operation in history.
