Uber announced that it would be acquiring alcohol delivery service Drizly, in a stock and cash deal valued at approximately $1.1 billion. Drizly’s marketplace is expected to be built directly into the Uber Eats app, though the company notes that it will maintain Drizly as a standalone app offering as well.
MYLES UDLAND: Let's take a look at some breaking news, here. Uber coming out with an acquisition this morning buying alcohol delivery app Drizly for about $1.1 billion in stock and cash. Looks like the deal is about $900 million worth of Uber shares, and then a couple million dollars worth of cash. So again, we get a deal here where Uber, Brian Sozzi, can use their stock as a little bit of currency, and I think makes sense considering the way the Eats business has been such a strong performer for them this year.
The deal is Uber's biggest since July 2020 when it bought Postmates, a food delivery app. The Drizly purchase primarily consists of Uber stock, with less than 10% in cash. The acquisition excludes Drizly's cannabis delivery arm.
