Every year, World Cerebral Palsy Day on October 06th recognizes people with cerebral palsy (CP), their families. The day also shows support for the organizations spreading awareness and expressing pride in the achievements of those with CP.
Over 17 million people in the world have cerebral palsy. In the United States, 500,000 children have CP, making it the most common physical disability in childhood. This non-progressive neurological disorder is usually the result of a loss of oxygen to the brain either before, during, or shortly after birth. Babies born prematurely are especially susceptible to cerebral palsy.
There are different forms of cerebral palsy. Some are much more severe than others. In any type of CP, movement is affected. Other areas of development affected include language and intellect. For example, one in four children with CP can’t talk; one in two children has an intellectual disability. CP is a complex, lifelong disability for which there is no cure.
World Cerebral Palsy Day was launched in 2012 by the Cerebral Palsy Alliance in Australia and United Cerebral Palsy in the United States. Today, over 450 organizations, parent groups, children’s hospitals, and universities in over 65 countries support World Cerebral Palsy Day.
# ලෝක මස්තිෂ්ක ආඝාත දිනය - ඔක්තෝබර් 06.
සෑම වසරකම ඔක්තෝබර් 06 වන දින ලෝක මස්තිෂ්ක ආඝාත දිනය මස්තිෂ්ක ආඝාතතය (සීපී) ඇති පුද්ගලයින්, ඔවුන්ගේ පවුල් හඳුනා ගනී. සී.පී. ඇති අයගේ ජයග්‍රහණ පිළිබඳව දැනුවත් කිරීම සහ ආඩම්බර වීම යන සංවිධානවලට ද මෙම දිනය පෙන්වයි.
ලෝකයේ මිලියන 17 කට අධික ජනතාවකට මස්තිෂ්ක ආඝාතය ඇත. එක්සත් ජනපදයේ ළමුන් 500,000 කට සී.පී. ඇති අතර එය ළමා කාලයේ වඩාත් සුලභ ශාරීරික ආබාධයකි. මෙම ප්‍රගතිශීලී නොවන ස්නායු ආබාධය සාමාන්‍යයෙන් උපතට පෙර, කාලය තුළ හෝ කෙටි කලකින් මොළයට ඔක්සිජන් අහිමි වීමේ ප්‍රතිඵලයකි. නොමේරූ දරු උපත් විශේෂයෙන් මස්තිෂ්ක ආඝාතයට ගොදුරු වේ.
මස්තිෂ්ක ආඝාතයේ විවිධ ආකාර තිබේ. සමහර ඒවා අනෙක් අයට වඩා දරුණු ය. ඕනෑම ආකාරයක සීපී එකක, චලනය බලපායි. සංවර්ධනයට බලපාන අනෙකුත් අංශ අතර භාෂාව සහ බුද්ධිය ඇතුළත් වේ. උදාහරණයක් ලෙස, සීපී ඇති දරුවන් හතර දෙනෙකුගෙන් එක් අයෙකුට කතා කළ නොහැක; දරුවන් දෙදෙනෙකුගෙන් එක් අයෙකුට බුද්ධිමය ආබාධයක් ඇත. සීපී යනු ප්‍රතිකාරයක් නොමැති සංකීර්ණ, ජීවිත කාලය පුරාම ආබාධිත තත්වයකි.
ලෝක මස්තිෂ්ක ආඝාත දිනය 2012 දී ඕස්ට්‍රේලියාවේ මස්තිෂ්ක ආඝාතය සහ එක්සත් ජනපදයේ එක්සත් මස්තිෂ්ක ආඝාතය විසින් දියත් කරන ලදී. අද, රටවල් 65 කට අධික සංඛ්‍යාවක සංවිධාන, මව් කණ්ඩායම්, ළමා රෝහල් සහ විශ්ව විද්‍යාල 450 කට අධික සංඛ්‍යාවක් ලෝක මස්තිෂ්ක ආඝාත දිනයට සහයෝගය දක්වයි.
