International Children's Book Day (ICBD) is celebrated to inspire a love of reading and to call attention to children's books.
Founded in 1967, the day is observed on or around Hans Christian Andersen's birthday, April 2. Hans Christian Andersen (April 2, 1805 – August 4, 1875) was a Danish author and poet.

During International Children's Book Day there will be a number of events held around the world, including writing competitions and talks from famous authors and illustrators.
