New Zealand call off Pakistan cricket series after security alert.

New Zealand on Friday (17th) pulled out of their tour of Pakistan just before the start of the first ODI in Rawalpindi due to a “security alert”. 

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) in a statement on Friday said that the team will not continue with the tour following an “escalation in the New Zealand Government threat levels for Pakistan”. New Zealand were set to play Pakistan in a three-match ODI series followed by a five-match T20I series.

Tom Latham is the stand-in-captain for New Zealand in the absence of regular captain Kane Williamson, who is in the UAE for the remainder of the IPL 2021 season.

“The BLACKCAPS are abandoning their tour of Pakistan following a New Zealand government security alert. The side was to play Pakistan this evening in the first of three ODIs in Rawalpindi, before moving to Lahore for a five match T20 series,” New Zealand Cricket said in a release.

“However, following an escalation in the New Zealand Government threat levels for Pakistan, and advice from NZC security advisors on the ground, it has been decided the BLACKCAPS will not continue with the tour.”

The Pakistan Cricket Board also put out a statement, saying the decision to postpone the series was made “unilaterally”
