Çhina claims to have set a new world record after scientists managed to run their 'artificial sun' at a very high temperature for more than 100 seconds.
China's Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST), in its latest experiment, generated a plasma temperature of 126 million Fahrenheit (120 million C) for 101 seconds.
The scientists didn't stop there. They also managed to crank up the device to achieve 160 million Celcius for 20 seconds.
The previous record for a maintained plasma temperature was 180 million F (100 million C) for 100 seconds.
Reports said the device, which is based at the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, broke the previous record for maintaining a plasma temperature of 100 million degrees Celcius for 100 seconds.
The EAST is one of the many 'artificial sun' devices that is currently under development. As of now, experiments are being carried out to provide infinite clean energy through controlled nuclear fusion.
