Chinese virologist from the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) Shi Zhengli was honored as an "advanced worker of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)".
Shi was also elected as a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology in 2019.
During the CAS 2021 annual work conference held in Beijing, Liu Lijun, director of the National Commendation and Rewarding Office of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, announced that 14 advanced collectives and 20 advanced workers, including Shi Zhengli, were honored.
Shi, dubbed as China's "Bat Woman" due to her years of passionate research and achievements in research with bats and viruses.
