The moon is shrinking, scientists say.

Scientists say our moon’s circumference has shrunk by about 150 feet in the last million years.

That doesn’t sound like much, and it won’t affect Earth, but it indicates a geologically active satellite.

The moon still has a hot interior. It’s cooling off, though, and that causes the surface to shrink, like a grape shriveling into a raisin.

It also contributes to moonquakes and landslides on the rock once thought to be seismically inactive.

Those aren’t expected to impact the Artemis III mission that could send astronauts to the moon as soon as 2026.

They, however, may have to be on the lookout for some shaking that could pop them off their feet on the moon’s low-gravity environment.
